Japan Travelogue: Nikko & Shibuya (20th of December)

Hi, minna!

Phew, we're finally back. What a day. A long, exciting, beautiful, exhausting day. We visited Nikko today.

We got super lucky, because it was such an incredibly beautiful day. And that's a pretty good thing. While it seems that it truly doesn't get especially cold in Tokyo, Nikko is an entirely different matter. The difference can be about 10 degrees! But today was fine. The sun was out and it was really pleasant. At first we were a bit taken aback by the fact that the huge temple is currently under construction and thus not open for visitors. It's a pity we couldn't see it, but then, we got to see how restauration works are handled on such a huge building. That alone was amazing. ^^

Getting into the major shrines I had my first official case of total over-load. It's downright impossible to catch the entire beauty, the art, the details of what was created there so long ago. It's simply breath-taking and for a moment I even wondered whether I should just leave the photos, because it would be impossible to catch the atmosphere and the artistic perfection and all I could do was distort a harmoneous picture. Well, in the end I took pics, of course, so I can show my friends and family at home where I went. ^^ But really, Nikko is one of those places where pictures will never help you to grasp what awaits you there.

We visited a few smaller shrines, went looking for the sleeping cat, but didn't find it (and there I've read in a guide where it is at home - too bad I forgot them ^^"), went to the home of the dragon, took a look at the famous 3 monkeys and... well, counting the stuff up makes it sound kinda dull... but it was really a unique experience. I've visited a lot of sacred places in my life, but I don't think I've ever been so in awe. I just can't put it in words. So, I guess I'll leave it at that. ^^

After we were done with the shrines, it wasn't exactly late, but too late to visit the lake, which B.A. bemourned. We decided to at least visit the sacred bridge before riding back, but it had gotten cold and we were hungry, so we sat down to have a snack - which turned out as some kind of late-lunch-early-dinner. I ate Katsu-Curry. The first of my life. It was really good. ^^ We left the shop jsut when it was closing and as we checked the bus schedule we saw that there was only one bus left going back to the station and it would go in 10 minutes. So, no bridge, after all - which B.A. bemourned again. Poor guy, it was really tough on him. But at least the bus drove by the bridge on its way to the station, so we could have a look at it, after all. That made B.A. at least somewhat happy. ^^

As it was still quite early and we weren't really tired just yet, we decided to move right on to Shibuya. The moment I got off the train it was like... well... how to describe it? It's huge, colourful, vivid, bright and many other things. Of course, we strolled through the 109 tower. I even bought a pair of socks. XD  But OMG!!!!! Woah, the people running about in there. Totally crazy. O_O Well, not necessarily in a bad way, it's just that I've never seen anything like it.^^" B.A. was beside himself, really. Again, poor guy. "Somehow I feel completely under-dressed," was his final statement. ^^ Oh, and I saw loads of magazines that I would have loved to buy. Well, some I'm still gonna buy, I think, but gotta watch my back, ne? ^^

Hm, what else? Oh yeah, once we got out of 109, we moved on to Tower Records. Wah, fantastic!!!!!!! SO much stuff there! It took me a while to understand how to look for what I wanted, but after a while it worked out quite fine. Well, much thanks to B.A. who helped me through the millions of cds. Bought a DVD of Koda Kumi and a Single of the J Soul Brothers. I wanted to buy some new stuff and things that I can't get in a JE second hand shop. Well, I still browsed the JE section, of course. XD AAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I'm too early for the new big round of release. Would have loved to buy T&T, new Yamapi and B'z directly. *cries* Well, you can't have everything, ne? It was still amazing. Even B.A. bought a cd. Really, he NEVER buys cds. Honestly, never. I wonder what hit him. ^^ Well, it was an interesting observation.

Once we were out of Tower Records, I decided I wanted to get a view over the huge Shibuya crossing. So we both bought yet another way too expensive coffee at Starbucks and went upstairs. It was pretty stuffed and we grabbed only one seat. Poor B.A. had to stand while finishing his shake. This was really an intense day for him. ^^ Well, we stayed only for a few minutes, then we moved on and made our way back to the hotel. Now that we're here we'll get up into our room, then get changed and after that go straight to bed. Luckily B.A. and I have finally agreed on a sleeping temperature that will not cook him or freeze me: 22 degrees. ^^

Okay, that's it for today. Tomorrow's plan is still in the making. Depends on how tired we still are, when we get up, etc. And now it's late, so I'll run off and get to bed.

Greetings to everybody! <3 Will report again tomorrow!

Haha, you can say that again. Today I felt like we didn't really do anything, and yet the day is gone. ^^ It's kinda weird.

Ah, not a problem that you comment late. I do that too. ^^ GLad you follow us, though. Today was pretty good fun as well. Ah, can't wait to tell you everything in detail at home. ^_^

Wah~! It always sounds like you're having so much fun! (^o^)
I can't even imagine the beauty of the shrines there.
Even if I see them on tv or whatever, seeing them in
person must be so amazing! I would just be like "Whoa!(*_*)"
the whole time! XDDD

Well have a good sleep! (^___^)
*hugs back*

Thank you! ^^

Yeah, it's true, you cannot portray what you see there. Well, it was definitely a great trip - even without the lake visit.

Time flies by and we can barely keep up to see everything we want to see. Oh, but generally we're doing fine.

Thanks a lot for following us! <3

Wahh.. Sounds so amazing. Sounds like you two are having a lot of fun and aww.. I feel rather sorry for B.A... nothing seems to be going to well for him. ^^ Maybe next time? And wow.. Shibuya? I wanna go there to.. >.< Whenever I get to eventually go to Japan you should come with me! I'm planning on taking a rather large group of friends with me. ^^" Am I planning to far ahead? Probably.

ANYWAY! I'm so glad to hear that you two are having a wonderful time and are able to get out and go see all the sights, aside from the few things you didn't have time for. ^^ Can't wait to hear from you next!

Aw, thanks a lot! <3

Mah, I wonder when next I'll be able to spare the money for such a trip. XD It's definitely expensive, especially with all the shopping. ^^" Oh, but when you go, make sure to visit Shibuya, it's such an attraction.

Haha, B.A. is quite okay. In the end he was glad we didn't skip our bus ride to visit the bridge. And we saw it too, so everything's quite fine.

Your welcome. ^^

Haha. Well I started saving my money again, because well.. I'm pretty sure I might spend all my money in the shops and things. -__-; I'm just awesome like that. xD ANYWAY!! Shibuya? Wahh.. I'm so excited. I really hope I can make it next year. I want to see how pretty it is during the winter, with all their lights and shiny things around. ^^

Haha, well thats good. I was reading this entry and I felt a little bad for him. Because you said he bemourned many things. Made me kind of want to hug him. xD Anyway I look forward to your next entry. ^^
