Japan Travelogue: Zojo Ji & Odaiba (19th of December)

Hi, minna! ^_^

So, here's today's report.

We started out, deciding that we want to visit Odaiba, after all. Our guide said that Nikko is a more pleasant trip during the week. So, it was Odaiba. Just, when we had to change trains on our way, we caugth sight of the Tokyo Tower and decided that "since we're already here", might as well have a look at it. So we set out into the according direction. Next thing I knew, we were standing in front of a huge temple. When we checked later, we saw that it was the Zojo temple. Woah, SO HUGE!!!!! O_O

Special breakfast ^^

We went into the area and found several buildings and even a rather large statue. Oh, and we got lucky. As we entered the main hall, there was some sort of praying ceremony going on and we could watch the monks and the participants. That was really cool. Bought some more charms there. I just love how they look. And I got one for B.A. to help him get better. ^^

Oh, and as we left, we witnessed how a car got... well, what? A special blessing? For safe driving. That looked... well, kind of funny, but also rather impressive. Then we went by a huge area with loads and loads of mini statues. I still don't know what that was exactly, but I'll check later.

Then, finally, Tokyo Tower. And I didn't even ride up. XD No, I didn't. Simply because I wasn't willing to pay 8 Euro for a ride I already had at the Tokyo Metropolitan Goverment building for free. So, it was a pretty short stay, actually. We had a look at it from the outside, went up to the free floors, checked out the merchandise and then left again. ^^" The tower is nice and beautifully lit by night, but well... the inside wasn't that spectacular to me.

On our way back on track (we still wanted to go to Odaiba, after all XD ), we made a(nother) short detour, because we spotted a small shrine in a little side road. As we got there, there were a lot of people, most of them in traditional clothes, fussing around. We were wondering about what might be happening there and not a minute later a huge bus arrived at the area. Turned out that a tradition al wedding was taking place there. Oh, just being there to see the bride was something. I'm quite sorry we didn't take pictures, but we felt like we were disturbing in the first place, so after admiring the bride just a bit we retreated.

A short stop in a small food store, where you choose your dish at a little automat and then give the small bill to the waiter, who will then bring you your meal. That was quite interesting, really. I tried my first traditional Japanjese Miso there. It was actually quite nice, even though I usually don't like it much. ^^"

And then, FINALLY, Odaiba. ^^ Woah, the ride there was already a huge treat. At first we had planned to cross the rainbow bridge on foot, but as it had gotten rather late, we decided to take a ride, after all. Oh, and the view was breathtaking. Totally fantastic. Once we were there, the first thing that hit me was the huge Fuji TV building. So, we headed there. Haha, I had lots of fun there! ^^ First we went up to the platform. Yeah, well, so I paid for a platform ride, after all, but not nearly as much and hey, it's Fuji TV, KinKi work there, so, gotta support, ne? ^^ The platform was cool, we could see all the way to Mount Fuji (or what B.A. thought it was XD ). Then going downstairs, making a small tour and watching all kinds of shows and series Fuji produces. Of course, we saw big hits like SMAPxSMAP, Domoto Kyoudai, Hey!x3, etc. I really enjoyed myself there. B.A. was fine with it all and occasionally recognised Kimura, KinKi, or YamaPi. ^^

SDK!!!!!!! Oh, I wish I could have watched a reording! ^^

Once back out on the street, we decided to move on to Mega Web. The quest was to check out the Toyota showroom. The walk there was pretty long, with the area under construction, but we finally made it. At first we got into the huge shopping mall to take a short break. The first thing that hit me was the ceiling that was painted and illuminated as though you are actually under an outdoor sky. We checked out a few stores, had a cup of tea and then moved on to the showroom. Wah, again, so huge! ^^ I keep saying that, don't I? Well, quite a lot of things in Tokyo are huge - to me at least. ^^ Ah, and many many shiny cars. Koichi would have been so happy. Well, I suppose he was, because he was actually there. And that was a highlight of my day. We visited the area where they went for shooting "Oshareism" with Koichi this summer. It was so cool, actually standing in that room. We also saw the iReal and the Winglet, but the instructions say we cannot test drive, because we can't speak Japanese properly. :(((((( I already know how that thing works. I've seen it like a million times. I WANNA RIDE!!!!!! T_T  Ah well, I took pics. ^^

Hm... after that... we went back to the hotel. It was late anyway. Somewhere along the way to the hotel my back started to hurt like mad. It really felt like I couldn't walk straight anymore. As soon as we got back into our room, I sat down, then changed and then "re-arranged" my spine. Sounds crazy, huh? Mah, I have to do that sometimes. My spines twists and turns in ways it's not actually supposed to, but due to my left leg being quite  notch shorter than the right one, my spine just twisted into that "situation". And now I'm stuck with an easily offended back. Now I'm already feeling much better again. *happy* Looking forward to tomorrow. We finally want to tackle Nikko. YAY!

Oh, but now, SDK will be on in about an hour. Guess I'll have a glimpse at that before going to bed. Don't want to wake B.A. at 6 am again, so trying to stay up a bit. ^^

Some basic thoughts:

First: Tokyo completely and utterly ignores winter. Like, really. Ice cream everywhere, in every cafe and rastaurant the only free drink is iced water, people out on the street in shorts, short skirts, etc. Quite... well, interesting. The only thing that indicates the season is really in IMMENSE Christmas fuss.

Second: Christmas is EVERYWHERE!!!!!! I am from a "catholic" country and sometime, even at home I get too much Christmas stuff at once. Here it's like 10 times more!!!!! You hear Christmas song everywhere, trees, streets, malls, shops are being decorated, every Cafe has special Christmas offers, it's really a big, big deal. Well, Japanese people like pretty, shiny stuff, so Christmas is like Christmas for them, I guess. XD

Well, that's my report of the day. Will write again tomorrow.

Greetings to everybody! <3
