Japan Travelogue: Asakusa & Ueno (18th of December)

Hi, minna!

Okay... I got into our room last night and fell right asleep. Now I'm up and the sun isn't even out yet. ^^

But now, let me recall what happened yesterday.

First, we went to Asakusa. We decided that the conditions coulnd't be more ideal with the sun shining bright in a clear blue sky and we can go to the museum when it's not so beautiful outside. So, we went there first thing. And BOY was there a huge crowd. And not just that. It seems that the temples are preparing for New Year's celebration and there were like a million little stands with foods and drinks and, of course, you can buy omiyage. That already got me. I had a chocolate banana that had been dipped into three different covers: pink, blue, brown and was covered with sugar pearls. *_* Totally cool. Then we had some octopus balls and a kind of Okonomiyaki wrap. Then I had a go with those fortune telling boxes. First I got a bad one and B.A. told me to get rid of it on one of those places where you wrap the bad fortune up. So I did that and on my second try I got a good one. YAY!

The temple itself is very impressive! It took some getting used to that it doesn't have the "ancient" kind of air, because that's basically what I'm used to. I have to say, though, that I like it. There were so many people, we didn't even go into the actual temple area, but just watched from outside. It was still impressive. Then I bought my first charm. OMG, they look so beautiful. ^^

After we left the temple area, we wandered about the streets for a while. B.A. was looking for a knife shop. It took us longer to get there than we had expected, but in the end we found it. Nice knives, but way too expensive. So, we made our way back. We stopped at a small cafe where I had a cup of fantastic apple tea and then we went on to Ueno.

A little stop: Apple tea and "Matcha Latte"

Ueno park was surprisingly pleasant. I thought it might be disturbing to be out like that in winter, but the weather was so fine it was really no problem. It was nice. Oh, I was lucky. I got to take a picture of a young girl dressed in a traditional kimono. I have to say, it has a special feeling to it. Really beautiful. The wind grew rather strong around the pond, so we didn't spend a lot of time there, but other than that, it was really calm and soothing. Too bad we only realised that it was 4 pm already when it did get a bit cold and that it was too late to move on to the National Museum. So, instead we got straight back to the hotel. Then I checked facebook and lj. Got up to the room - and slept. Until about half an hour ago.

So, that was our day yesterday. I hate that I can't place any pictures in just yet - most of all, because now I'll have to put them in all at once as soon as I'm back home. ^^" Mah, but that's still okay. I just would have loved to share them directly.

What else? Hm... I hope I can get B.A. up in about 30 minutes. I'm hungry and want to have breakfast. ^^ The plan is to visit Nikko today. Alternatively I've been thinking about having a look at Odaiba and then maybe Akihabara. Well, we'll see about that.

For now, that's all I have to report. Thanks to everybody for their nice and sweet wishes! I'll buy lost of omiyage and send then all around the world. ^^

Will report again later.

Jaa! ^_^/

Asakusa is sooo nice ♥
We went there too and took a photo in front of the famous kaminarimon ^^ And we had a talk with some highschool boys there too XD maaa...You make me remember so many wonderful memories ^__^
Did you also go to the place with the smoke that should make you smarter? XD It's a funny superstition.

Because you mentioned food: I relly regret that I didn't try more food there -_-° Takoyaki was delicious (and I didn't even like octopus before XD)...
Oh - please make sure you eat some Crepes in Tokyo (especially the one in Takeshita Dori - maybe you remember the Shindoi with Gackt, where Tsuyo and Gackt bought a Crepe there?)

Wah, Asakusais really cool!
Well, we saw that place with the smoke, but we both didn't know what it does. XD

I had my first traditional Miso today. I totally can't eat the stuff I get at restaurants at home, but that one was actually nice. Well, nicer anyway. I didn't finish all of it, but it's a start. ^^

Haha, yeah, I remember that one. Especially the part where they then went drinking together. Super flirty, both of them. XD I'll buy one. Today I already had a special treat. I went to Odaiba, where Koichi went for "Oshareism" shooting. I SO want to try riding on that iReal thing. But they won't let me if my Japanese is weak, even though I already know how to drive it. T_T Well, I took pics. Will share as soon as I can. ^_~

Yes, thanks, we're having a swell time. Although my back is killing me after today's tour. @_@ But we saw SOOOOO many cool things.

If you really want to go, you'll manage. Even I did and I had close to no salary and zero connections (at first). So, it's definitely possible. ^^
Thanks a lot for cheering for us! <3

Yay, looking forward to it! ^o^
No need to hurry, we'll be around for a while.
(Actually, B.A. complained already - as is his nature - about how many other things we can still do with so much time left.)
